A Change in the Air

I love the days in between winter and spring, where you can feel the change in the atmosphere.
The air is warmer. The sun has a little more shine. And you feel like singing a cheesy 80s song. Okay, maybe that last part is just me. But, either way it makes your soul sing just a little bit more.
But, sometimes, those brief glimpses or moments feel like such a tease. It feels a lot like waiting.
I thought about this a lot around Christmas and wrote in my journal...
Waiting is hard.
Waiting is painful.
Especially for those planners, like myself who like to know where they're going or have some sort of time frame.
But, waiting doesn't always provide that. The three wise men understood that.
God told them to follow a star and there they would find the Christ child.
Okay...
But, what does that look like? What adjustments would they need to make in their own lives?
Waiting takes faith.
Lots of it.
Because waiting for a promise that God has spoken to you isn't always crystal clear.
you don't always know all the details before you jump into the journey.
And it just plain sucks sometimes for lack of a better description.
Because it can be lonely or it gets tiring. Or you let doubts set in about whether it's worth it. Or you think you should try to take matters into your own hands.
Waiting is the very thing that grows our faith. Where God shapes and molds us into who He has created us to be.
So, yes, waiting is tough at times and can feel like torture.
But, I think the wise men would say that following the star to Bethlehem made the journey worth it.
Sometimes it's tempting to open that sparkly package with the bow on it before Christmas Day. But, don't steal that joy of the look on your friend or parent's face when you see what's inside too early. The very thing they have picked for you and wanted to see your reaction for.
Don't settle because the waiting takes too long or you grow impatient. God is the same way when it comes to the story He's writing for you and for me. Exclusively for us. His promises are just too good to not want to hold on a little bit longer.
"Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord."
*Psalm 27:14*
